Some time ago I received a message from the ever so awesome creepy queen magazine. They were putting together their next issue and I was asked if I wanted to fill out an interview for them... ah, fuck ya!!

Created by KimmiKillZombie of UvKITTY (also in Toronto), Creepy Queen is still a fairly new publication. It's latest and second issue is out now and is available through www.creepyqueen.com. The cover,

inspiring to say the least. I'm not sure what my interview page looks like but I'm patiently waiting for the copy I just ordered to arrive.

Still Drooling

I was recently asked by a customer to make a brain cameo the same colour as a pair of shows. When I opened the link to see the heels I was instantly hypnotized by... wait for it....here it comes...this is just filler now... zombies!!! They are easily the most beautiful shoes I have ever seen.

Once I was done making the cameo I shifted gears and made some peanut butter and jelly necklaces but it wasn't enough. The shoes were still on my laptop screen and since I can't quite afford the heels I needed to do something to honor them (besides drooling like an undead).

I can honestly say I feel better for making this set of bff heart brains. Do the colours remind anyone else of candy and ghostbusters?

Tentacles not Testicles

Creating tentacles can be a tedious job. Luckily the anticipation of seeing the end result is enough of a driving force to finish them...

The octopus above will be available to purchase later this week but I don't yet know about any loose limbs. I'll be making larger versions of them shortly, their purpose being purely decorative, not worn.

Anyone attending fanexpo in Toronto this year will get the chance to see them up close. Or hold them. Pet them. Cradle them... even smell them if you'd like. Er, just no biting allowed

Finding Inspiration

Heat Alert warnings in Toronto had me cooking in my tiny  death box of an apartment so about a week ago I decided to bow out. I packed up my clay and headed to my parents place for some AC, whipped cream and sound sleep.

Since I first got here I've collected dozens of reference photos including these carnation poppies,

Bizarre, awkward and alien like they were an instant attraction sparking a few different variations. This is the only one so far that has made it through the entire process.

These things were in no way sculpted for retail. Instead they'll be a part of a couple top-secret-until-their-release-date-unless-you-sign-up-for-my-newsletter projects

I've been crazy busy these last couple weeks... somehow without much to show for it (balls to that). The one night I did get a chance to sit down and make something new from polymer clay, this guy was born.

I call him oatmeal. Hes only been through the first two stages of creation but when hes fully complete he'll be one disgusting little human worm thing.

    Sarah Norton
Beat Black is a handmade jewelry (and other stuff) business created by myself, Sarah Norton, and run out of my apartment in downtown Toronto.

I've worked with a variety of different mediums over the years but during these last few its been all about polymer clay. I mostly try to use this blog to showcase the craft in a 'behind the scenes' kind of way. I also like to show off other artists original work that inspires as well as listing any giveaways and discounts.
